Why it matters
It makes the three-month average concrete. An A1c of 5.5% is abstract; an estimated average near 111 mg/dL is a number you can compare with meals and meters.
When it reads low
A lower eAG mirrors a lower HbA1c and means less average glucose exposure. Anything that skews HbA1c — such as unusual red-cell lifespan — skews eAG the same way.
When it reads high
A higher eAG mirrors a higher HbA1c and means more time spent with elevated glucose. It inherits every HbA1c caveat because it is derived from it.
