What GGT measures
Gamma-glutamyl transferase is an enzyme concentrated in the liver and bile ducts. It often rises with alcohol, certain medications, and metabolic load.

Why it matters
How clinicians usually read it
It helps a clinician decide whether an ALP rise is likely hepatic. Capillary chemistry studies include it; it is a standard SST add-on.
When it reads low
A lower value can mean
A lower GGT is the usual quiet pattern. Isolated low values rarely change a plan.
When it reads high
A higher value can mean
A higher GGT can follow alcohol, bile-duct stress, medications, or metabolic syndrome. It is a clue, not a diagnosis.
