What Leptin measures
Leptin is a hormone made by fat cells that signals energy stores to the brain. Shoemaker protocols include it because cytokines can interfere with that signal.

Definition
Leptin is a hormone made by fat cells that signals energy stores to the brain. Shoemaker protocols include it because cytokines can interfere with that signal.
Why it matters
It is part of the venous CIRS set, not a Tasso+ Essential assay. High leptin with weight gain can mark resistance to the satiety signal; the number still tracks body fat.
When it reads low
A lower leptin usually tracks with lower fat mass. Very low values with weight loss or restriction need a clinical look.
When it reads high
A higher leptin usually tracks with higher fat mass and can accompany leptin resistance. In a CIRS workup it is read with the innate-immunity panel, not alone.
Questions for a clinician
01
Is this leptin explained by body composition alone?
02
How should it be read with the rest of the CIRS panel?
03
Would you repeat it after the next protocol step?
